Blues Still Run the Game

Based on Jackson C Frank's tune "Blues Run the Game, rewritten by Ken Holmes, April 2012

Jackson C Frank was part of my life in 1965, 66 & 67. I often visited, and once or twice performed
(in a very minor way) at Cousins Club in Greek Street. It was a small, steamy and inspiring place. Paul Simon
had recently left and Jackson Frank, Bert Jansch, Sandy Denny and a few others, later to become famous, dropped in
and out and played odd gigs. They imprinted several years of my life until I found dharma.

Catch a boat to England darling,
Maybe to Spain,
Wherever I have gone
Wherever I've been and gone
Wherever I have gone
It's the blues that run the game.

We live like there's no tomorrow baby
Nothing down the line
Not to give the world a future
Not to give our kids a future
Who gives a damn about tomorrow
As long as today, we all feel fine

These guys who run the countries, honey
Said they'd fix things good
They've no control, the whole thing's crashing
Tears are shed and teeth are gnashing
Tears are shed and teeth are gnashing
Deep down, we  knew they never could

The world is small and we're too many, baby
We all need to eat and drink
But the earth and air and water's poisoned
Some get rich, the rest abandoned
The earth and air and water's poisoned
How it will end, I daresn't think

I hope this is all illusion darling,
And that we'll wake up from this dream
To find a world of love and kindness
A world without this wretched blindness
To find a world of love and kindness
Where we are true human beings
.
